aritz aranburu entra en WCT

Esta misma madrugada ha acabado el reef hawaiian pro en Haleiwa, la primera de las competis que completan la vans triple crown. En la web se puede ver en directo, y como hawaii esta justo a medio mundo de aquí, compiten cuando aqui es de noche. Ayer eche un vistazo a eso de las 23:00 y vi que Aritz Aranburu estaba en 1/8 de final, y dije: 'a ver que hace este'. Así me dieron las 2 de la mañana, cuando por fin se eliminó, ¡¡en semifinales!! osea que quedo 5º (las rondas son de 4 en cuatro), lo que le ha asegurado el entrar matematicamente en WCT, y se ha puesto 5º (tambien) en el WQS.
Os pongo lo que escriben el la web oficial de ASP sobre las condiciones (que no eran nada buenas, menudos olones) y sobre Aritz:


"It wasn’t just about riding big waves either. Today’s lineup was a brutal test of endurance, lung capacity, will-power and mind-power. Raging rip-currents hundreds of yards wide encircled the contest zone. Competitors had to battle to simply stay in position for a ride; a problem compounded by rogue set waves that bulldozed the break and swept surfers assunder. Take-offs were often elevator drops, and waves didn’t necessarily cooperate after that, randomly doubling up to offer a dredging tube-ride or a wipeout that presented like a head-on collision."

"Despite losing out in the semi-finals (=5th place overall), Basque surfer Aritz Aranburu was one of the highlights of the final day’s action. Eliminating Bruce Irons (Haw), world No. 2 Taj Burrow (Aus) and other highly seeded surfers en-route to the semi’s, Aranburu now sits at fifth on the WQS ratings and will be a starter on the 2008 World Championship Tour."

La competi la gano el hawaiiano Roy Powers (el pro del grip creatures de Iñigo), que se asegura volver a entrar en el WCT. por cierto, si a alguien le interesa: los primeros 16 del wqs entran en el wct, yo no lo sabia.
